CAS Colours & Sketches #182

Hey!

This month over at CAS Colours & Sketches we have LOTS of fun challenges in store. As it is the summer months we are taking it in turns to be a hostess for the week. This week our hostess is the lovely Jane.

Jane has come up with this awesome sketch HERE and seen below for you to try...

I had SO many ideas for this sketch, but limited time this week to make a card. This is how I ended up using the sketch...

I had some previously stamped and die cut elements on my desk left over from previous projects a couple of weeks ago, so I put them to good use on my card!

The flower blooms are from Uniko's Flower Power #2 and I have used the Rock N Roll inking technique to stamp them. The leaves are from Natures Treasures II and the sentiment from Simply Said. The doily is a Papertrey Ink die cut. As usual I have added a good covering of Wink Of Stella to my flowers and leaves ;)

I hope I have inspired you to give the sketch a go and join in on the challenge this week. Be sure to stop on over HERE and check out what the rest of the CAS Colours & Sketches DT have done using the colours and I hope to see you in the gallery.

Thanks for stopping by today.

White Wash Watercolour Technique

Hey!

Today I thought I would share a few more cards which we made during the class at The Paperlane on Saturday, using a white wash technique that I came across. I made 3 cards using the technique...

This first card uses the Gerbera from Pure Florals: Gerbera which will be back in stock in the next couple of weeks.

We also used the Chrysanthemum from Pure Florals: Chrysanthemum...

There are only a few steps to achieving this look which are really simple which I have shown in picture format.

1. Stamp your chosen outline image in VersaMark or white pigment ink onto kraft card stock & emboss with white embossing powder. (You can use other colours of card stock as I will show you further down the post. I saw it done on the kraft & loved the look).

Stamping & embossing the image helps with the next couple of steps, keeping the white wash & colours inside!

2. Next is applying the white wash. I used the lid of my white pigment ink as a pallet, but you could use a craft mat or piece of acetate. Smoosh some white pigment ink onto it and using fine watercolour brush and a small amount of water paint the image...

3. The next step is to start adding colour...

You want to choose fairly bright colours as over laying them over the white wash & blending them mutes them some what. For the pink Gerbera I used Melon Mambo & Regal Rose and for the Chrysanthemum I used Pumpkin Pie & Summer Sun.

Using the same technique and supplies as applying the white wash I started adding the colours. In the picture above in the top right I have shown just the Pumpkin Pie added to areas of the petals and to the lower left I have used the Summer Sun & blended them to create a natural look. When I painted the original I did all the dark shaded areas with Pumpkin Pie first then I went over with the Summer Sun and if necessary went back adding more Pumpkin Pie if needed.

4. Once the whole image was painted, I went over with a dry baby wipe to remove any colour which had gone onto the white embossed lines.

It's quite a lengthy process, but it is relaxing and enjoyable and I think the results are beautiful! In this next photo I experimented & used black card stock. I used exactly the same colours as the Chrysanthemum on kraft card.

Both look stunning, but I do prefer the kraft version better. It is on my to do list to experiment with other colours of card stock!

Along with the two floral cards I decided to use the technique on a one layer card using one of the doilies from Decorative Doilies - The Hands Of Time...

Again I started out by stamping the doily in VersaMark & embossing with white. I then applied the white wash. For the colours I kept it simple and I haven't done any blending...

I started with SU! Bermuda Bay which is a bright turquoise colour. I used a really fine watercolour brush to apply the colour to the spokes of the doily. I then used a retired SU! colour Baja Breeze which is a pale turquoise colour to fill in the other areas of the doily. Even with just applying flat watercolour a stunning result is achieved!

I hope that I have explained the technique to you all so that you can give it a try. If there is anything you are unsure of just leave me a comment to which I will reply or send me an email & I will reply by email.

Ok, that's all from me just now,  I will be back later to announce the WINNER of the March DT Blog Hope prize. Until then, thank you for stopping by :)

Back to Reality!

Hey!

Well, I'm back on English soil but not quite back on English time! Feeling a bit jet lagged but I am sure I will be back to normal in no time. Things will be back to normal here on the blog too with daily postings, the team however did a FAB job whilst I was away don't you think?

I'm looking forward to getting back into the studio and being creative, so many ideas buzzing round my head, written down & sketched whilst I was away!

Anyway, today I have this card to share with you which I made before I went away...

I've combined Beautiful Blooms with some doily tape & wide ribbon from SU! and a lovely Autumn colour scheme.

I want to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who took the time to make and send me & my husband such lovely Wedding cards, it was such a wonderful surprise to come home to. I will be thanking you all individually in the near future but wanted you to know how special you made us feel. Thank you also to everyone who left comments here on the blog too, it made us feel very loved. We had a fabulous  day & wonderful honeymoon/vacation with many memories to treasure.

Wonderful Washi

Hey!

I seem to have slept most of Saturday away today & had a late inky session in the studio, but overall had a good day! I hope your all having a good day & enjoying what you've done or are up to :)

It's been some time since I inked up my Wonderful Washi stamps & so I've a Wonderful Washi card to share with you all today...

It just so happens that Moxie FAB World are holding some challenges over on the blog and one of them HERE is all about using Washi Tape. So I had to join in on the fun using Uniko Studio's Wonderful Washi clear stamp set!!

As I was layering my Washi over a doily that my friend Claire gave me to try out from SU! I stamped my Washi onto card. If I had not been layering it I would have searched for my white tissue paper and 'made' some of my own self adhesive Washi tape!

A sentiment from Label Love: Birthday stamped onto a banner die cut, some satin ribbon, a heart shaped button & some bling finished the card of nicely! I used the current Dynamic Duos colour challenge HERE and seen below for my card. Two colours I'd not automatically grab to put together, but I'm liking it!

So that's all from me today, I'm off to chill in front of the TV and watch a movie! Thanks for stopping by today.

Paper Crafting Crush!

Hey!

Happy Weekend :)

On Thursday I came across THIS blog post by Taheerah, which is all about her paper crafting crush. It all began over on Clean & Simple but I'm a little late to that party! However, it got me to thinking who my paper crafting crush is, this didn't take me long.

I can't remember exactly when my paper crafting crush began with this person but her Clean & Simple style & general paper crafting 'WOWness' has captured my attention for many years. Can you guess who my crush is...?

No? Maybe these projects below will give you a hint...

Yep, it's the FABulously talented Maile Belles!

I am often inspired by Maile's card layouts, colour combos and general paper crafting style & today's card was inspired by this card that I spotted on Pinterest yesterday...

I kept the colour scheme & general layout the same but used a Uniko Studio Decorative Doily & decided to keep it sentiment free...

I'm not a lover of gold embossing but it's good to step outside the comfort zone now & again. I'm liking  the gold with light pink & wouldn't have given it a go if I hadn't been inspired by Maile.

Who is your paper crafting crush? I'd love to know.

That's all from me today, I hope you all have a super weekend & find plenty of paper crafting time!
